Explorations in Voice Collaboration with Katie Oskin & Ginger Davis Allman | Polymer Clay Tools & Supplies Review

The Collaboration Projects – Part 1

The time you’ve been waiting for is here. Learn all about what Ginger & I worked on in her Missouri studio.

By now you have heard and read what’s been going on with my collaboration with the fabulous Ginger Davis Allman of The Blue Bottle Tree. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, you need to read this (there’s a giveaway there too). And while you’re at it, don’t miss Ginger’s post either.

Quintessential Ginger & Katie

Mister Bloue by Katie Oskin of KatersAcresThe first of the two projects that I will talk about and share is Bloue and Ginger’s striking white tile. I have dubbed this photo “Quintessential Ginger and Katie” for a huge reason. Because these two pieces when you look at them are us, through and through.

There are few polymer people that would see this dragon, Bloue, and not know that I made it. Why? Because it carries my voice along with a view other things. It carries my harmonious color palette, broad expressions, and whimsical cheerfulness. Not to mention the Parker spot that all my characters have on them.

Uses: Christi Friesen Surface FX, B'Sue Glass Stones

Alternatively, there are few people who wouldn’t recognize this small tile as Ginger’s either. Why? Because all of Ginger’s work carries a sense of balance, luxury, and class that defines her voice, even in her simpler pieces. Every one of her pieces have flow and are perfectly balanced and proportionate, with clean lines and many different angles. It’s one of her more defining characteristics and perhaps one of my favorite elements of her work. With Ginger’s work, there’s rarely a surprise. Everything is well thought out and well planned. In all honesty, I’m a little jealous of this aspect of her voice.

Let’s be honest. Ginger and my work is lightyears apart. But there are defining things about each of our styles that are harnessed and noticeable right off the bat. Those characteristics are what we call voice. Everyone has a voice, it’s learning what it is and how to harness it that will make you better at what you do with clay. [Read Ginger’s article on voice here.]

Thanks for joining me today,

Happy Claying,
