New Studio Storage

There’s just something about repurposing an item (especially a family item) that makes my studio ring out with joy.  This stamp sorter is one of those things.

Where I Got It

As many of you know, my old library card catalog (that belonged to my Grandfather) is my favorite part of my studio. But now, I have added another really cool element to my studio, an old antique desk topper, that belonged to my Grandfather (the other one), he used it to collect and to sort his stamps.  Today I use it to store all the different mixed media elements I have collected:

  • Buttons
  • Steampunkishness
  • Brass Findings
  • Chains
  • Feathers
  • Ribbons
  • Beads of all sorts
  • Swarovski Crystals
  • Coverables
  • And my favorite, my Altoids Mini’s Tin

Where You Can Find One:

Studio Storage Solutions by KatersAcresI would love to send each of you a special link where you can go and buy something just like this … however, I can’t seem to find anything like it! Each drawer is just tall enough to fit my Altoids Mini Tins with about 1/4″ clearance to spare.

What’s your favorite storage solution in your studio? Let me know if the comments below.

Thanks for joining me today,

Happy Claying,

  1. Try googling Letterpress Tray Cabinets or Printer Tray Cabinets. You’ll find some similar cabinets. The short drawers were used to store letters for old fashion presses, back in the days when typesetting was done by hand, not on a computer. Most of the ones I saw online were expensive because they were being sold as antiques, but at least you can get an idea of what’s out there.

    1. Thank you so much for the tip. I had no idea what I had! I appreciate you letting me know.

  2. I have a question where do you get the Altoids tins do you get them empty or with the mints….as soon as I get a camera I will send pictures….

  3. It is terrific that you have these amazing legacies from your grandfather. They become such useful heirlooms to pass down through the generations…….and a cool way to store your stuff!

    1. I think so too! I love having family things passed down to me; Its memories of my Grandfather far outweigh any “antique” value that it might have.

  4. I recently saw one of these at Hobby Lobby, it was black. Pretty, but pretty expensive for my bargain shopping.

    1. This is a great little piece in my studio. You can probably find them at Estate sales or garage sales, even antique stores might have something similar.
