Leaf Cane & Rose Cane

Leaf Cane

Leaf Cane for 52 Weeks of Canes by KatersAcres | Link to tutorial providedDuring the entire month of March, we worked on creating leaf canes.  I’m not a newbie to leaf canes by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I love leaf canes and make a LOT of them.  There are lots of ways to make the same style & kind of leaf cane and now that I have tried just about every tutorial on them, I have most definitely decided on my favorite way to make a leaf cane.  The final leaf cane for the month of March was the leaf cane by idressmypets. While I am not overly thrilled with the style of this leaf cane, it can be easily repeated at any time. However, I have many other “favorite” ways of making a leaf cane…

Rose Cane

Rose Cane by KatersAcres | Week 13 for the 52 Weeks of CanesFor the month of April, we are starting rose canes. I made my very first rose cane ever. Not too shabby for my first cane, I don’t think.  Our real project was to create the cane with leaves & a background … but you know me, always the rebel and never one to follow instructions exactly … I did my own thing … I created just the rose.  I had a specific idea in mind and will post the results of it when it is finished.

The Scrap Solution

Caned Rose Keychain made with Scrap Clay by KatersAcresI’m all about using left overs, but here’s the thing, I can’t stand the huge amount that I am gathering through the 52 Weeks of Canes Project.  Keep in mind that I am a sculptor (albeit whimsical creations) by trade, however, when I create something, I’m always able to save the scraps to make new colors & new blends.  Sometimes when you work with canes, that is hard.  It wasn’t hard with this one as the results yielded a gorgeous shade of pastel pink.  This being said, I’m trying to come up with some other ideas to make things with my cane ends, wonky slices, etc.

So … my solution is this … I took the wonky end of my cane after I had reduced it and I cut it off.  I then placed an eye pin in the top of the cane slice. The leftover from the other side I made some nice small beads with.  Then, I simply added them to string & ribbon and made a gorgeous keychain from them; suitable to sell or to give as a gift.  This chain chain however, it’s for me!
