Katie Oskin in Studio

Meet Katie Oskin

Hi, I’m Katie! I’m glad you are here. I believe in fairytales, fantasy creatures, and impossibilities. I believe in them so much, I bring them to life in whimsical polymer clay sculptures. One by one, piece by piece, personality by personality they come to life. But there’s also something else I really enjoy and that’s teaching others how to do it too. If you love impossibilities, fairytales, fantasy, and adventures of all sorts with a twist of whimsy and mixed media this is just what you need.

History with Polymer Clay

Katie Oskin of Kater's Acres

She has worked with polymer clay since 2007, starting with bead making. She began making her own line of figurines in 2009 with Parker© and his StoryBook friends. In January 2013, Katie began to teach her own whimsical sculpting skill set with the help of Christi Friesen. By the end of 2013 Katie began her own monthly paid sculpting Club, the first of its kind in the polymer community, it was then called Parker’s Clayful Tutorials. Katie has continued to teach in her home privately, at local events, at charity events, and offer abundant workshops alongside her online presence. Today her online monthly club, Whimsical Sculpting Tutorials Club is a large teaching resource for both new and seasoned whimsical sculptors. Over the years she has opened her own online retail shop filled with an abundance of tools & supplies specifically geared to sculptors & mixed media artists like herself.

While she loves all techniques & disciplines within the polymer medium, she is a passionate whimsical sculptor who specializes in caricature-type faces, characters, & creatures. Each and every character she creates has a backstory. These stories are what inspire her creations! In 2015 her line of The ‘Schrumes© characters (including The ‘Schrumes, Schellē Schrumes, Schrumé Spoonies, & Stoné Schrumes) were born and she found her true niche. Her work as a whimsical sculptor began to morph and change into the sculptor that she is known and recognized for today in the sculpting community.

Thank you for being a part of the Kater’s Acres Family, Sculpting Blessings,

  1. Oh my goodness… I clicked on to pintrest and there you were. I beleive we are of like minds… You, are an answer to my prayers I do beleive. The last few years has been rough, and I ended taking a year’s leave of absence from a gallery here that my buddies and I started about 13 years ago. I call my creations Iggits… Started drawing them in 1966…Then I found this recipe with cornstarch and soda and H2O, cooking it on the stove top to mashed potatoe consistency, and then cool and shape, seal, paint, seal. Then came along Polymer Clays, wow, what a journey! And then today, I decided I should try to go through some e-mails..After surgery on my knee I could sit normally for a little bit. And to my delight you were at the top of the list of close to 5,000 e-mails. Thank you Lord! Morty P. S. I don’t have a website per se’, but I may have some things in Buffalo Creek Co-op Art Gallery, Shelby, N. C.

    1. Wonderful, glad you found me! There’s over 300 free tutorials here, so you can have a look around and see if there’s something you’d like.

  2. I see you are a beautiful sister in both God and clay. I was looking for a reason why my clay just crumbled after baking it ( which if found thank you). I was attending to make life size praying hands. They failed, but I will not give up. Thank you katie for your time much love and prayers

    1. Thank you Paul! Wonderful to meet you too! Don’t give up, keep trying. You WILL get there. You are in charge of the clay. It takes a bit of patience, but you will succeed. Blessings to you, ~Katie

  3. Just a short visit from Carrot Top . . thinking of you today.

    1. Thanks Daddy! Love you!

  4. Hi Katie. I just signed up for you’re emails. I came across you through Ginger Allman and your month long “studio” articles . I was wondering how you met her.

    1. Hi Sue! Thanks for coming over & joining me here. Ginger & I “met” online actually. I started to get to know her through several mutual polymer clay groups we are in. She’s a wonderful lady. I just love her to pieces!

  5. I have a cousin who is a missionary for the American Baptist Churches over in St. Petersburg, Russia. His name is Kevin Plaster and his wife Tammy is the principal of the international Christian school there.

If you would like to know more, please message me and I will e-mail you one of his newsletters he sends out. I myself attend a independent Baptist Church here in Del City, Oklahoma as there aren’t many American Baptist churches here. When we lived in Amarillo, Texas back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, we attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church there, which was affiliated with the American Baptist Churches. Anyway, I am also a polymer clay artist, focusing on jewelry and ornaments. My FaceBook name is Linda Alato Dyson. I have a couple of FaceBook pages, one is called Simply Susan’s Handmade Jewelry and the other is Dyson PolyClay Designs. Look me up and maybe we can encourage each other!

    1. Hey Linda! Nice to “meet” you. I removed the address information for your cousin to help protect him & the church. My prayers will be with him. Thank you for joining me here on the site!
