The Importance of a To Do List on the "Build Your Brand" Series by KatersAcres

Do you know those days when your “to-do” list is longer than you are tall?! Sometimes I have them too.  They are tiring, frustrating, and down right exhausting.  Last week I received an email from one of my Build Your Brand readers wondering how in the world I was able to get it all done.  I do have a few secrets, some of which I shared here.  But today I’ll tell you the best way to be “Etsy-fficient” and still get your normal “life” things done AND have time to get in your studio to create…that secret: always have and use a to-do list!

Disclaimer: Today’s blog post is based 100% on my opinion and techniques and things that I have tried that have worked for me.

Your To-Do List:

The Importance of a To Do List on the "Build Your Brand" Series by KatersAcresIn order to get everything done, you have to know what you need to get accomplished.  If you don’t know what you need to accomplish, how will you ever know whether or not you’re “done” for the day, “done” in your studio, “done” cleaning the house.  Let’s face it, you really do need a “to-do” list.

Here’s what works for me:

Every night before I go to bed I sit and do my “to do list” for the next day.  I use my “Reminders” app for my Mac products.  Then in the morning I decide what will either take the longest or which project I least want to do.  Here’s my theory: if I get the longest or least desirable things done first, then I can enjoy the rest of my day and my “to do” list.

Why It Works:

Using this method, I have yet to miss anything!  I know that before I go to bed, or watch TV, or do any other non-work-related activity that I have the necessary things done first because my “to-do” list reminds me.  But here’s the biggest key in getting it all done: Remember that you need to pay yourself in order to live in this life.  Money translates into food, a car payment, heat in your house … you get the idea.  So get the things that will give you payment done first.  If that is listing the new item you made, great! If that’s finishing up your new eBook, fantastic.  If that is returning 5 emails for leads, then do it.  But, please … Pay. Yourself. First.

Thanks for joining me today. Join me next week to Build Your Brand on Etsy & experience success.

  1. I live and die by a to-do list! I love crossing things off. Sometimes, and I know I’m a dork for doing this, I write down something I did just so I can cross it off the list! LOL!!

    1. I do that too Lisa! It helps me feel more “productive!”

  2. Oh yes, a ‘To-Do’ list is so important! A great way to ensure that everything we need to accomplish gets done! And I do so love it when I can mark things on my schedule/to-do list as DONE!! 🙂 Good advice here!

    1. That’s my favorite part too Trina – the “done” portion. Here’s my secret: At the end of the day I review what I did so I feel more productive.
