Build Your Brand YouTube Style

YouTube Parker GraphicIt’s no secret that YouTube is the single largest video hosting site on the entire web.  It gets millions of hits a day.  And like Pinterest, the average user spends 90 minutes a session watching videos!  Today’s question will focus on whether or not you, your store, or your brand should be on YouTube.

How To Decide:

One of the hardest things to do is to decide whether or not you want to open your own channel to Build Your Brand on YouTube.  Opening up another social media venue (which YouTube is) can create havoc for some people who do not have enough time to dedicate to the channel.  Just like any other social network, you will build a following and a regular audience.  So here’s what to ask yourself in order to decide if you should open your brand to the idea of video marketing.

What Do I Have to Share?

One of the most used features of YouTube are the tutorial features.  (Later this week I will be releasing my first video tutorial).  Just about any artist in any medium can shoot a simple tutorial.  Does it have to have all the bells and whistles?  It should have something other than just the straight shot from your camera…but here’s a secret, if it’s good content with so-so production, it will still do well.  Do you have something that you can share?  A simple tutorial, an elaborate frame by frame of your latest design, scheduled release videos?  If you can come up with something to share in a video format, good for you!  Take a chance and go do it.  You never know what kind of success you will have until you try it for yourself.

Do I Have the Time?

This is the second question you should be asking yourself.  Do you have the time to add another social media network/channel into your arsenal.  Here at Kater’s Acres, it’s just me.  I do all my own graphics, maintain all my social media channels, keep up my Etsy store, and still find time to create in my studio.  This means that someone will have to shoot your video, edit the video, add sound & graphics, and upload it to YouTube.  If you don’t think you have the time for it, then don’t add another social media channel just because you have to or think that you are missing out.  If you have things to share with your artistic community or like-minded people, then take the time to try it out.  (You can see my most recent video at the bottom of this post).

What Do You Have to Lose?

You truly have nothing to lose, except the investment of your time.  If you have a computer, video editing equipment, and time then my personal opinion is that you try it.  Do a tour of your studio.  Show the world how to create the perfect earring dangle.  Show acrylic artists how to paint a little tree.  Whatever you decide, just try it and see where it takes you.
