My Favorite Sculptures of 2019

2019 Favorite Sculptures from KatersAcres

Every year I have favorite sculptures that I create. Some are favorites because of materials or who I made them for; while others are favorites because of how they turned out. I should add that rarely is a favorite turn out the way that I envisioned it. Why? Because almost all of my sculptures speak to me. Yes, that’s right! They speak to me. Each in their own way, but they do. Allowing myself that freedom is what has made the following 5 pieces my favorite sculptures of 2019.

The Llama Doll

Llama Doll by Katie Oskin of KatersAcres

This Llama Doll made my top 5 this year because she was made for someone very special to me, my sister-in-law. Not only is my sister-in-law (SIL) special to me, but everything about this doll has an element of myself, things that I love and things that made my heart sing, and most importantly, things I knew she would love too. I really love “jiggly” figurines because their movement brings me a great amount of joy. It doesn’t matter how they jiggle, just that they do. Because I love and appreciate my SIL so very much, I gave this sweet girl a heart shaped nose; so that my SIL would always know she was loved by me. But I also want to dress us this little llama. Because after all, the world needs more fancy llamas! So after some stellar eyeliner, flowers, pearls, and fancy lace skirt this llama is ready for a night out on the town [or at least a date with her llaMAN (see what I did there)].

Lake Erie Dragon

Lake Erie Dragon by Katie Oskin of Kater's Acres

Before we moved from our home in NW Pennsylvania, we lived within minutes of Lake Erie. I would go there often and scrounge from all kinds of fun things to see and collect and transform into unique one of a kind items. This dragon embodies the spirit of Lake Erie. He’s mysterious and holds a bottle of Lake Erie sand and a tiny shell I found on one of my trips to the beach. He’s already been adopted into a very loving home where he sits and guards over all their beach treasures. [Get your own dragon here]

Stuffed Pink Toy

Pink Stuffed Toy with Polymer Clay by KatersAcres

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s soft and cuddly in a way that polymer clay is not, if it’s because it’s a bright and vivid pink, or if it’s because it hits many of my “yeah, you rock” buttons … but one thing’s for sure: this little girl totally made my top five for 2019 because every time I see her she makes me smile from ear to ear. The bright green, almost neon accents make her facial characteristics really pop. Meanwhile the jet black glass eyes have just the right amount of dollish, doe-eyed, “cute” factor that make my heart go ‘pitter-patter.’ And let’s not forget the ears as long as jack-rabbits and yet totally flopped over on just one side. Yep … definite heart stealer. And with bit of good news, both the tutorial and her own cute self are available.

Sprouting Schrume Planter Pot – Tongue Out

And there’s just a time or two when you have to enjoy sticking your tongue out, even when you’re nothing more than a pot. I mean after all, for these fun pots, there’s something sprouting from their heads! What better reason to have your tongue out than for that alone? A very special customer adopted this guy and I’m so glad that I know he has a good home and that his plant will have a nice home to grow in.

Sloth Wall Hanging

Sloth Wall Hanging by KatersAcres

What are you going to go other than just hang around? At least that’s what most sloth’s do … right?! This sloth wall hanging was not only super fun to make, explore, and make a ton of leaves and foliage for, but deciding how to position him amongst his rainforest greenery was also a ton of fun. I wanted him to be tucked in there just so. It had to look like he was peeking out through a dense cavalcade of the rainforest itself. And when he was done, oh how I giggled. He has brought me so much joy and glee and he now stares at me as I work, wondering how I could possibly be so slow. I just tell him to “be quiet and look in the mirror.” HA!
