Well, it took over a full week in my studio to make this Nativity set. Overall, I’m pretty pleased. Read on to see what happened and get a glimpse into my process.

The Nativity

Well, it’s all completed and has been delivered to its new owner! This nativity set took me over a week in my studio to create from scratch to finish. Like many artists, my people have a signature look and feel to them that rarely differs from figurine to figurine. That being said, here’s a few snapshots of the work I did on these cuties in my studio and how they started to how they finished. This set will be available to adopt in my Etsy store, please allow 2 full weeks from date of purchase for delivery.

The Process

The first stage was making the bases and faces. Then I made the inside armatures for each piece. The first finished pieces were: Mary, Joseph, & the Angel, followed by Jesus and the Shepherd.

You can see on the picture at right that my little angel (the first one) had some issues … she got “hurt” in the oven, so I had to completely remake her.

The next pieces to be made were the wisemen and the newly remade angel. This was followed by all the animals, including my favorite animal, the sheep! When all the animals were done, I decided that though I really love the sheep, my very favorite animal was the donkey that you can see close up prior to baking in the picture below.

Overall, I was very pleased with the results from this project. I can’t wait to make another one (when I have the time that is). I have a few people in mind to be recipients of a set like this!

  1. These are too cute Katie. You did an amazing job not only putting the figures together, but those expressions are so… ALIVE!! I especially love the little nativity sheep
as for my latest sculpture… I may finally unpack my clay this weekend and hopefully start sculpting again soon

    1. Thanks so much Leah! I can’t wait to see how you finish your fairy!
