The Year of Discovery at KatersAcres

Have you ever sat back and wondered if you or your art is going in the right direction? Ever stopped and wondered if you are being true to your inner most self? This past fall as I spent over 30 days (on two separate occasions) hospitalized and I had a few of those inward moments. I spent a lot of time thinking about my sculpting and my art. Was my art true to myself? I had those thoughts and moments of self doubt. Was being true to my heart song? So as 2016 gave way to 2017, I knew the course was going to change, it was inevitable … 2017 was going to be a year of Discovery. My art was going to change, because I was changing.

Word of the Year, “Discover”

The Year of Discovery at KatersAcresEvery year I have a “word of the year” and I try my best to honor it and to live up to it. Several years ago the word was “give.” I did my best to “give” unto others and unto the clay community as a whole, even within my own studio giving clay lessons for hours at a time. Every year that word has varied and has had a wide scope of meaning.

DISCOVER

This year, the word “discover” has a broader scope and a broader meaning. I am setting out on a new adventure this year in almost every single facet of my life, but especially in my art. I have a vision, a dream, a goal. And I hope that one day I will achieve that dream. But there’s only one way to do that … work hard, sculpt more, and discover who I am, where my strengths are, and what my voice wants to become on it’s own.

The mixed media painting shown here was made by me. In this painting I used a wide variety of art mediums including: paper, book pages, acrylics, inks, watercolor pencils & crayons, & stamps. This was a piece I was inspired to do from our week 1 project of LifeBook. I incorporated my word of the year “Discover” and hung this piece in my studio as a reminder. And as a side note, if I was a pretty fairy, I would look like this as this is my self-portrait too.

Studio Clearance Sale on Etsy

KatersAcres Polymer Clay StudioKater’s Acres isn’t going anywhere, but my studio is getting a whee bit of an overhaul. What’s this mean? It’s means I need to clear out the studio and make some room.  My older work, sculptures, books, tools, and even some studio pieces are available in my Etsy shop. Many studio pieces, designs and books have already been listed. Sign up for the mailing list to be notified of extra savings as they happen. Anything that isn’t adopted into new homes will be donated, so be sure to adopt those Shop Now Buttonthings you’d love to own. I love owning a piece of another artists heart, magic, & art. To me it’s personal and it helps give my studio life. I sincerely appreciate each of you who adopt my designs and take them into your own personal spaces.

I’m so excited to bring each of you along on this journey during this year of Discovery (and show off my studio overhaul). Never be afraid to try to new things and work hard to fulfill all your claying dreams.
