WIP Wednesday: Caned Flowers

WIP Wednesday: Polymer Clay Caned Flowers & More at KatersAcres Polymer Clay Studio

Does your “work” in your studio each week tend to carry a “theme” with it? I never used to think mine did, until I started my WIP Wednesday’s Series of posts this year.  I realized something in taking all those photographs, there really is a pattern to my work.

A Working Pattern

As I mentioned above, it seems that my “work” in my polymer clay studio has taken on a pattern. It’s hard for me to believe that, because I always thought that my work was led by the “scratch what itches most” mentality.  This past year in 2014, I decided that I would start a new series of blog posts entitled “WIP Wednesday.” This series of posts was to showcase what all I do in my studio. My studio is about more than just Parker & Lolly, though they certainly take center stage. But I have found through the years, that I get “bored” very easily … so I have always been the type of creative that does something for a long time, then changes direction, only to change direction again.  Maybe you work like that too …  This being said, through all the photos that I take in my studio (many of which you can see as I am working on Instagram) on a day by day basis, I have recognized that each and every week, there is a pattern that emerges.

I’m very excited about this, the entries are juried and I will be participating on “Artists Day” and “Kid’s Day.”  This being said, I wanted to showcase a lot of my “other work” aside from my sculptures. Even though these shows are 3 months away, I have begun the work of preparing for them.  Some of that work includes making my vast supply of polymer clay caned flowers, these flowers end up in necklaces, keychains, & much more.  This week, I made a lot of these caned specialties as you can see at the right.

Weekly Tidbits & Fun

  • Parker Bug Tea Light StoryBook Scene by KatersAcres | Handmade with polymer clay & millefiori canesMy Polymer Clay Cafe magazine arrived in the mail this week. I’m not nearly as impressed with this one as I have been with previous editions, but it’s still good for inspiration.
  • Parker’s newest Tea Light, part of the “Bug Series” has been released and is available for adoption in my Etsy store.
  • Don’t miss my collaboration with Ginger from The Blue Bottle Tree as we discuss “Making the Most of Your Polymer Clay Studio” every Thursday this month.
  • I’m anxiously awaiting the new Sculpey clay, “Soufflé.” I’m desperately hoping that it is similar to the old Studio Sculpey … I loved that stuff and I was very sad when they discontinued it. Be sure to follow Polyform Products FaceBook page to see the newest releases and information.
