Friesen Fridays - Book 6 Birds of a Feather Book Review

Another month has come and gone and it’s time to kick off summer with my favorite of all Christi’s books: Birds of a Feather.  With summer comes outside activities, vacations, time with friends, and for many much less time in your studios.  Because of this we are taking two summer months to have some fun, relax, and play!

I really enjoy all of Christi’s books, but there are some polymer clay books that I LOVE to review and this is one of those books.  I do not necessarily have a “thing” for birds, (okay, maybe I do a little bit).  This book is jam PACKED with awesome tutorials, tips, fun, and or course Christi’s humor.

Some tutorials can not be completed without the book.  Please order the book here.

Please note this awesomeness: The original book is out of print, however, Christi has a NEW book (the Revised and Expanded Edition) out which can now readily be purchased.

What to Expect:

Christi Friesen Birds of a Feather Book Cover

This book is nothing like Christi’s previous Beyond Sculpture books.  This book is filled with tons of projects, links to free projects online, and even supplemental materials.  As I stated above, this is my favorite Christi Friesen book in the Beyond Sculpture series.  The colors, the birds, the fun, the humor … there’s not ONE project I don’t like in this book.  Overall polymer clay book review grade: “A+” a five star tutorial book!

SURPRISE: Because this is my favorite book and there are so many awesome tutorials, we will be spending TWO months on this book!

In addition, because this is my favorite book for the next two months, I will be writing loads of free bird tutorials (and a few paid ones) for you to jump into your studio and clay around with!  Don’t miss this week’s free tutorial, the Mallard Duck, a quick and easy bird project!

JUNE PROJECTS:

Free Owl Tutorial by Christi FriesenThe projects for this month will be varied.  For those PDFs & projects that are already published online, I will be featuring an alternative project ideas as those projects / tutorials can not be duplicated.  Because this book has been out of print for so long, projects from outside the book, using the books theme of “birds” will be pulled and used.  In addition, I will be placing a “linky” on this blog so you can upload all your bird projects from the summer months.

June 21st – Peacock Project (photo examples on pg. 44)

June 28th – Owl Tutorial from the CF Website (start of pg. 43 in book then finish with online tutorial)

  1. I am having problems too….

  2. *pssst* – the “June 21st – Peacock Project” link doesn’t work!

    1. When I checked this link, their entire site is down temporarily for maintenance. I will check again soon to be sure it still works.

      1. This is what I get when I click on it – then and just now:

We’re sorry, there is no document corresponding to that Document ID.

Hmmm – OK. This worked. I searched Christi Friesen, then clicked on artist, then the picture of the project. Here is the link that works for me:

        1. Thanks Shannon! I’m wondering if anyone else is getting this problem. When I click on the link it is working for me; I will add a second link.
