Polymer Clay & Glitter Storage by Katie Oskin of KatersAcresSometimes finding the “perfect storage solution” is not an easy task. You try things that work and things that fail. Several years ago I purchased one set of these acrylic storage units with the idea that I could use them to store my glitter and you know what … it worked and it’s been my “go to” storage for any form of glitter (or sequins) that I bring into my studio. Please note that I buy glitter in small packs, like these. I do NOT buy big jars of glitter because glitter is a rarity for me and even these small portions will take me forever to use.

Here’s just a few reasons why I love these:

  • You can store MANY glitters in one place.
  • Each glitter has it’s own mini container with a LID.
  • The containers are removable so you can set each one on your work surface as you need them.

WARNING: These types of clear, rigid plastic containers are NOT raw polymer clay compatible. Do not set or store polymer clay in these containers (not liquid clay either), the plasticizers will literally “eat” (melt) the plastic. Read more about this from Ginger Davis Allman’s post.

  1. Those little containers are awesome! I use them (or similar) for storing small amounts of different stuff that come in huge containers and take up too much workspace to keep handy. I store pearlescent, Iridescent, pouring and heavy gel gloss mediums, Triple Thick, vaseline (for various crafting media use), and yes, glitter, in the little containers. Before I discovered these little cuties I recycled prescription bottles for glitter and such, but they require a lot more storage space that I stopped using them in favor of the little containers. I also use empty paint pots in those strips like you buy kids’ paint in. They are great for so many uses, really inexpensive, and leak-proof for liquids. I usually cut the strip of 6 in half and use them in sets of three for easier stacking/storing but you could cut the whole strip into individual pots. You can also get these in a variety of sizes (3, 5 grams, etc.) and in large numbers. I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08R8PN9C3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this pack of 36 5ml/0.17 oz for about $5.

    1. Awesome Lisa! Glad to know that we’ve both found this useful. I use those little paint pots too. I use those for my own liquid clay mixes, for my acrylic mixes, and any other “liquids” that I need on hand in my studio. Honestly, it never even occurred to me to cut them apart – I may have to do that now!

  2. Thank you loved the idea, I also use the little containers for small bits and baubles. Things I have found or just get a few of. I love using these and they stand up to being dropped fairly well and not haveing the your items get scattered every were.
