Color Palette Inspiration:

Color Palette: Where Pink & Green Collide by KatersAcresI love color palettes, they inspire me, and take me to new places each and every time. Most often in my studio, my pieces of creativity begin by laying out a color palette. From there, I let the clay decide what it wants to do or what it wants to be made into.

So how do I choose the palette? Choosing the palette is the most difficult part. In the case of the palette at left, I just went digging through my clay and created this palette from colors straight from their packages. Because I was making a Pixelated Retro Cane, I knew white & black would be in the color palette. Because I didn’t want to overwhelm the palette, I wanted only two separate colors. It is rare that I pull colors straight from their packages, but I was going to be making an ombre effect with the two colors (Premo! Wasabi & Premo! Metallic Mauve), so I wanted colors that I could mix easily and create blends from. You will not always get this lucky, but on this day, it worked for me.

The Outcome:

Every color palette has an outcome, sometimes the colors work and sometimes they don’t. In this case, when my project was completed, I sat back and took a good luck at it. Yes, it was busy, but WOW did I love the result. The more I look at it, the more I have decided that it reminds me of watermelon. An unplanned, but natural leap….
