I love introducing new people to you here on my blog. Please know that I am very selective in who gets a showcase opportunity on my blog. For the most part, the artists who are featured here I have developed relationships with over the course of several weeks or months. Ginger is no exception … but yet she is. In a previous post today, I spoke to you about how wonderful Ginger is and gushed over her a little bit. I try not to do this often, as some of my guests find it a tad embarrassing. However, what I want each of my readers to understand is that Ginger truly is a very special person.

And not only is she special, kind, & wonderful … she’s also a fantastic innovator & creator in the polymer arts. Ginger questions concepts, and ideas, & puts them to the test. You can see one fabulous example of this in her experiments with two different kinds of silicone molding putty and in case you’re not sure what that is, you can read about it here on her blog as well. But she goes above and beyond when she writes her tutorials.

Holo Effects Tutorial Review

Ginger describes her tutorial:

“Create a shimmery holographic effect that resembles dichroic glass with this polymer clay tutorial. You will learn how to create glowing, dimensional, color-shifting images in your polymer clay creations. Make jewelry that shines, pendants that stand out, and focal beads that glow. When the light catches the Holo Effect piece, it very much looks like it’s lit from within.

The Holo Effect really is a stand-out. When I wear jewelry that I’ve made with this technique, people always comment on it. Even in low indoor lighting, it almost seems to magnify the light and create an other-worldly shine. This technique does not use metal leaf or mica powder to create the wonderful color shift.”

Every word that Ginger writes is true. She has created a unique tutorial that captures light, transforms it, & takes on the color that you are working with. Is there a special trick, you bet! And Ginger describes that in detail (to find out how she does it, purchase the tutorial here).  I have purchased a lot of polymer clay tutorials, books, ezines, & magazines. I’ll be honest, no one writes a tutorial like Ginger. No. One. Her tutorials are well thought out, well planned, and carefully worded, and even has extra tips & tricks to help you along your way to creating. Her pictures are clear & concise, demonstrating steps & detail to the best I’ve seen from a PDF tutorial.

What Can You Create?

I’m always hesitant to purchase tutorials that lend themselves to jewelry techniques and components. Why? Well, if you’ve been one of my readers for a while, you know that I don’t make jewelry … and I don’t make jewelry because I rarely wear jewelry.  But with the Holo Effects Tutorial, there are so many applications you can use this technique for: ornaments, inches (or twinchies), jewelry, journal covers, sculpture bases, and in my mind I can even see this as a cool application for a dragon’s belly! I have made several things from this tutorial and though pictures are hard to tell sizes, the snowflake ornament pictured at the right is the size of my hand, while the heart pin at left is about 1″ tall.
