In the Old Days

KatersAcres Old Studio TableMy polymer clay studio used to be run out of the living room of my husband & my home.  It was great, until Parker started to come into his own and people fell in love with him.  For Christmas of 2011 my husband handed me blueprints for a brand new mini-addition on the house. I wasn’t too excited, until I read the top of the plans “Kater’s Acres Studio.” My heart soared! From that moment on we saved money to build this mini-addition.

The Plan

KatersAcres Dream Studio DrawingsIn March of 2012, my husband told me he had a better idea and it would cost half of the old plans. Eager to save money, I quickly agreed to hear out his new plan.  His new plan was to gut our basement and renovate the existing space, building a separate room in the basement just for me and Parker.  WOW! What a great idea.  So in August 2012 his plans and my dream became a reality.  My husband spent every last spare minute he had for 2 months getting ready for the huge undertaking that would become Kater’s Acres new home.

Moved In, But Not Finished

Though the details were not finished, I was able to “move in” and start working in my new polymer clay studio in October 2012.  Throughout the months of December and January, my husband spent his extra time finishing the details like trim, bookshelves, electric furnace, touch up painting, and other tedious tasks …

Without Further Ado…

So now today, February 1, 2013  I present to you the finished Kater’s Acres polymer clay studio!

I am jealous…lol I have been bugging my husband for a year now to build me a studio in our basement. He says no, so now my work takes over the kitchen, dinning room, so of the living room and part of the bedroom…lol I figure if I take over the whole house I wil get my studio. Bet it feels good to be organized. Very nice. By the way, might your husband be up for hire….lol just kidding.

That’s a beautiful studio, Katie! I hope to have a great clay storage unit too. My hubby has been in construction for almost 40 years, so the building contractor is covered. 🙂 When I finally get my space put together (either the spare room upstairs or the lower floor of the storage building we have beside the house) I plan to have three areas, for writing, claying and crafting/sewing. I’m busy trying to figure out the best lay out for all my passions in whichever space I’ll use since both rooms are similar size and available space. I have some wonderful storage, portable closet shelve units, glass-front recycled cupboards, that were headed to the dumpster, given to hubby from Home Depot and a marble counter top a friend gave me for my desk/work space. This video makes me impatient for my own space!

Thanks so much Lisa! I waited a long time for it, but I am SO BLESSED that my husband was able to build it for me. Your future studio sounds fabulous. It’s so nice to know other ladies whose hubby’s are handy building things as well. Kudos to you! Your two rooms for studios sound just wonderful. Like all artists, what I need MORE of is display & storage space.

Thanks Pamela! It was my late Grandfather’s, he used to work for a school and when everything went digital they put it out for the trash, and he took it home. It’s my most FAVORITE part of my studio!

Thank you Rian. The best part is that since I have m own space, it is easier to keep clean and keep the kitty from jumping up and playing with my unbaked creations.
