Color Palette Inspiration
Where Pink & Green Collide
Color Palette Inspiration:
I love color palettes, they inspire me, and take me to new places each and every time. Most often in my studio, my pieces of creativity begin by laying out a color palette. From there, I let the clay decide what it wants to do or what it wants to be made into.
So how do I choose the palette? Choosing the palette is the most difficult part. In the case of the palette at left, I just went digging through my clay and created this palette from colors straight from their packages. Because I was making a Pixelated Retro Cane, I knew white & black would be in the color palette. Because I didn’t want to overwhelm the palette, I wanted only two separate colors. It is rare that I pull colors straight from their packages, but I was going to be making an ombre effect with the two colors (Premo! Wasabi & Premo! Metallic Mauve), so I wanted colors that I could mix easily and create blends from. You will not always get this lucky, but on this day, it worked for me.
The Outcome:
Every color palette has an outcome, sometimes the colors work and sometimes they don’t. In this case, when my project was completed, I sat back and took a good luck at it. Yes, it was busy, but WOW did I love the result. The more I look at it, the more I have decided that it reminds me of watermelon. An unplanned, but natural leap….
