Commit to Making Polymer Clay a Weekly Event

What happens when you dedicate just one year to your craft? As a general rule of thumb, not only do you become more proficient & skilled as an artist, but you learn what you like and what you don’t like, as well as what makes you happy! If you work with polymer clay as you main medium, I challenge you! That’s right, I challenge you! I challenge you to start and finish one project a week.

Polymer Clay Community Challenge

You might be thinking that a year long challenge is easy …or you may be thinking that sounds hard. You can decide how frequent you need your challenge to be. If one item a week is too easy for you, try two items a week or maybe even an item a day for a year. The point of this project is to work at minimum every week with polymer clay.

Jacaranda Tree Cane, Week 44 by Wendy Jorre de St Jorre

One of the biggest projects of this past year that I have been following is by polymer clay artist Wendy Jorre de St. Jorre. She took 2014 to make 1 tree cane a week. Check her Flickr pages to see her work. Very kindly, she’s also shared several of those canes in tutorial form on her Flickr as well. Every year I challenge myself to make 52 StoryBook Scenes, that’s one StoryBook Scene a week (you can adopt them here). Several years ago, Lisa Pavelka did 365 Carmex jars, one jar a day … What a huge (but rewarding) undertaking.

There are LOTS of things you can do … be creative, but make a commitment to it.

How to Join

  1. Make a decision what you will commit to making from clay during the course of 2015.
  2. Write a blog post announcing your commitment to join the 2015 Polymer Clay Challenge.
  3. Grab the button below & add it to your website.
  4. Leave your name & website in the COMMENTS below linking your written statement of what you will commit to making with polymer clay in 2015.
  5. Throughout the year, write a blog post and tell us (the polymer clay community) how you are doing.
  6. Share throughout social media using #2015PCchallenge
  7. Every month, ONE winner will be chosen by random to win a prize from Kater’s Acres & Parker.
  8. Join the FaceBook Group here.

This is a free endeavor with no strings attached! Simply challenge yourself & commit to being creative in 2015.

Need ideas of what to create each week? How about these polymer clay Prompts?

I’m in for the challenge- I’m just going to have to pick a subject. I’m currently working on flowers, which is new for me- and I have made peace with making simple canes-so maybe that will be my challenge- make a new cane each week.

Hi Katie,

I saw this Polymer clay challenge yesterday and would be interested in participating it. I hope not very late.

I don’t have any blog so far but can create a new one soon. I am not sure if this can be done through my facebook account / OR I can add button given above in my fb page.

I would love to try different mediums and caning procedures this year hence, jewelry / vases made from them.

Let me know if ok to join now.

Thanks,
Rashi

Hi 🙂
This challenge seems fascinating.I just started playing with PC a few months back, I would love to challenge myself just to see what I can do.
Few questions :
1.Is it too late to join ?
2.Is a blog entry required for everyweek?
3. Is jewelry acceptable ( I haven’t gotten to sculpting yet )?

Thanks

I am happy to be a part of the challenge, it will keep me motivated. I recently had my jewelry accepted at the Fantasy and Stone Gallery here in Eureka Springs, I need to come up with some fresh ideas, the challenge will help.

I “grabbed” the button from above and now need someone to tell me how and where to insert it on my blog. I left my tech support (my grandkids) in Illinois and haven’t the faintest idea of what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for posting twice. I got some warning pop up that made me think it didn’t go through and I didn’t see my reply, but now I see it…actually, I see them both. LOL

Hi Katie, Well my blog has been updated and I posted about 2015 PC Challenge. Although I have tried several times to upload the badge but it seems, something is wrong with the link. Can you please check it out again? I am committing to completing a weekly project in this challenge. I will let you know upfront that I am dealing with some health issues, praying they I will get better before the New Year is upon us. I have some more tests to get done and hopefully by then they will let me know what will be done concerning treatment/medication. But I am not about to let that stop me! Looking forward to this challenge! Thank you again for inviting me! Here is the link to my post: http://gesmpccorner.blogspot.com/2014/12/2015-polymer-clay-challenge.html

I’m doing it! Does cleaning up my craft room count too? 🙂

Absolutely Heather! You can start with cleaning your studio if that’s what keeps you motivated! I personally always have a clean studio … I work better that way.

Fresh starts are always good. And the best part?! There will be a WHOLE BUNCH of people doing this, so you’ll be in good company and others will help to keep you motivated.

Hi Connie! You need to write & state your intentions on YOUR blog. Since this is a self-motivational type of a thing, you will be stating to YOUR audience what YOU are doing for the challenge. Be sure to link back to this post so that other readers who might want to join can do so as well. Don’t forget to add the Badge to your site as well!

I have done my own blog post for what I am doing. You can see it here: http://katersacres.com/polyclay/2015pcchallenge-polyclay/my-2015-polymer-clay-challenge/

This is a wonderful idea. I have just started with clay…at the moment cold porcelain. I was wondering if I can do this challenge with cold porcelain until I can get my hands on some polymer clay? Thanks for your reply.

Absolutely you can still do it Ruth! The idea is to start (and finish) at least 1 thing a week. There are no other requirements. You are just making the commitment to yourself to clay every week … or in your case sculpt with cold porcelain every week.
