Fairies, Gnomes, & Trolls
by Maureen Carlson
Polymer Clay Book of the Month
If you are new to KatersAcres, welcome to the clay fun, wonderful, a tiny-bit crazy, but mostly a laid back learning zone! If you are not new to KatersAcres, welcome back. My goal with everything that I do here on the website is to make polymer clay engaging, fun, and accessible to everyone. You don’t need to be a professional artist to use this versatile medium. One of the new things I’m doing in 2016 is choosing one polymer clay book of the month to share with you. These books may be brand new, like January’s “Dogs” Book by Christi Friesen, or older and well loved, like this month’s Fairies, Gnomes, & Trolls by Maureen Carlson.
Who Is Maureen Carlson?
Maureen is NOT a new face in the polymer clay community. Like Barbara McGuire last month, Maureen holds a special place in the polymer community. She is a much beloved teacher, artist, and writer. You’ll find Maureen’s designs are filled with humor, whimsy, and much joy as you glance at each one. Her Pippsywoggins are splendid, you can read their story and more about them here.

Fairies, Gnomes, & Trolls: Create a Fantasy World in Polymer Clay
This month’s book, Fairies, Gnomes, and Trolls: Create a Fantasy World in Polymer Clay is right up my alley. I’m a sculptor at heart and love all kinds of sculptures, from the fun and fanciful to the meek, squeaky, squabbly, cute, cuddle, and yes, even quirky. Maureen Carlson book is filled with whimsy, wonder, fantasy, and a whole bunch of fun! The introduction to polymer clay in the beginning of the book is one of the best I’ve read. Informative, fun, & not at all fussy. Just like I like it! This book is filled with not only people, but mushroom folk, faces, and much more.
