For the Friesen Project, we are finishing up one of my favorite books, “Birds of a Feather.” For this week’s extra-special tutorial, it is a Christi Friesen inspired parrot! Let’s get started!
YAY! It’s HERE! The Friesen Friday project you’ve been waiting for! I think every week I tell you that this week’s project is my favorite, so I will definitely refrain from saying that again … but … this was so much fun!!! I LOVED IT! I could make lots of these and then make lots more. So without any further yakity-yak … let’s get started!
Despite the fact that it has done nothing but rain her at Kater’s Acres for almost 3 weeks … things are flooded, ducks, frogs, and mosquito’s abound! This being said, I’m wishing this summer had more sunshine and less rain. But, you know what they say, “Be careful what you ask for.”
You know what time it is? Yep, it’s FRIESEN FRIDAY! That means that today is going to be another awesome tutorial from Christi Friesen. I sincerely hope that you are enjoying your projects for this summer. I also hope that you are taking just a few hours to make some of Christi’s beautiful projects. Today’s project is a polymer clay penguin tutorial. Bring on the icebergs! Continue reading Polymer Clay Penguin Tutorial from Christi Friesen
As I write this post, my to do list has seemingly over 1 million things on it to get done. Jeepers. I really don’t like that feeling. In fact, often it is so much of a barrier for me that become a severe road block to my creativity. Are you the same way? When you have a million things to do, where do you begin to get inspiration? For me, I simply pick some colors that look nice together and see where that palette will take me. Why I’m “dry” finding a striking color palette is the beginning of that “ah ha” moment for me in my studio. Since this color palette was such an inspiration to me this week, I’m hoping that it will be a springboard to your own creativity.
Well, yesterday was quite the day around here. And because I love you all so much … despite that we lost power for over 4 hours in the afternoon, I was so dedicated to each one of you that I had to finish my owl. So in the picture above you can see the bright and shiny studio that I usually get to work in …. along with yesterday’s claying conditions. YIPES! So, without further ado, let’s get on with our projects today, shall we? Continue reading Friesen Friday: Owl Mania!
One of the things that artists need most is inspiration. Sometimes we run out of creativity, draw a blank, and find ourselves out of ideas and with no idea where to start. Color palettes are one of the ways that we can re-inspire ourselves. Lately, on my FaceBook page, I have been offering up a weekly prompt to help you get inspired. Today I will give you two different sources of inspiration, a color palette, and actually polymer clay colors for you to try out in your studio this weekend! Every once and awhile I’m going to throw some prompts your way to help you dive back in your studio! Continue reading Inspiration for Your Creative Weekend
In honor of the two months of birdie fun we’re having here at KatersAcres, here’s another classic fun figurine that you can make to enjoy yourself! This DIY polymer clay puffin tutorial is perfect for beginners and advanced artists alike.
For the summer months, the Friesen Project is going to look a little bit different. As I explained in the opening Friesen Friday of June, many of the tutorials for the Christi Friesen projects are coming from online resources. This being said, today’s project is not a complete tutorial. The tutorial can be found elsewhere online (see project information and link below). I had a lot of fun creating my polymer clay peacocks, in fact I made several of them. So get out your clay and let’s get started!
The much awaiting and highly anticipated “Birds of a Feather” book by Christi Friesen has begun. (*Three Cheers for Christi’s awesome book*). I think I mentioned in my last post, thought it always bears repeating, that this is my favorite Christi Friesen book. Perhaps it’s because I really enjoy making birds, or maybe it’s because I enjoy feeding birds, or maybe it’s because my favorite food is chicken?!?! Whatever the reason, I am so excited to kick off this month with Christi’s awesome “Lil’ Blob Birds” from her book. These are so addicting … I made 6 the first sitting and about a dozen in the next. They are fun! So get your clay out, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s get started! Continue reading Little Sculpted Birds Tutorial
Another month has come and gone and it’s time to kick off summer with my favorite of all Christi’s books: Birds of a Feather. With summer comes outside activities, vacations, time with friends, and for many much less time in your studios. Because of this we are taking two summer months to have some fun, relax, and play!
I really enjoy all of Christi’s books, but there are some polymer clay books that I LOVE to review and this is one of those books. I do not necessarily have a “thing” for birds, (okay, maybe I do a little bit). This book is jam PACKED with awesome tutorials, tips, fun, and or course Christi’s humor.
This project was so much fun to do and to create! It is now my joy & pleasure to share it with all of you! I really love any kind of animal that has that cuter than cute look about them … and the Koala bear is definitely one of them. This koala bear tutorial can be done as shown above or as a free standing sculpture, the choice is yours. Without further ado … let’s get started! Continue reading Koala Bear Tutorial
Have you ever wanted to make a really cool log or a piece of jewelry with a wood grain looking finish? I’ve put together a really quick tutorial on how to make a faux wood grain using polymer clay. Please know that there are many ways to make faux wood grain with polymer clay. This is the way that I make faux wood grain to use in my sculptures. Without further ado, enjoy this free polymer clay wood grain tutorial.
Well another Friday is here! Can you believe that we have done 16 tutorials together? Today’s tutorial makes number 17. Awesome! For those of you who have stayed with me throughout every project and every challenge, I commend you for taking the time to get back to claying. I started this project with one goal in mind: to explore polymer arts, meet clayers from around the world, and get people to fall in love with polymer again. Many of you have written to me and told me how much you appreciate the tutorials and the project. Thank you for the letters & emails – I’m honored to take this journey with you! Today’s tutorial is not found in Christi’s book, it’s just from me to each of you … from way down under, the Tasmanian Devil! Continue reading How to Make a Polymer Clay Tasmanian Devil Project
