Polymer Clay Color Recipe for Faux Jade

Then it Came to Me … Faux Jade

Old Man 2D Face Sculpture in Polymer Clay by KatersAcresYesterday I shared with you what I had been working on in my studio. One of those things was an “Old Man Face” for a challenge for a FaceBook group I participate in. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with this Old Man yet, so I let him sit (for about a week) and kept staring at him while I worked.  Finally I started asking in FaceBook Groups what people thought I should do with him. Overwhelmingly, many people thought he looked rather Asian … that was not my intent, but okay. I decided to run with it!

What Polymer Clay Means to Me by KatersAcres

What Polymer Clay Means to Me Poster

Part of the fun of our polymer clay weekend with Christi Friesen was that she had offered a contest to everyone who was attending. She asked each person to answer the question “What does polymer clay mean to you?” There were fantastic answers, most revolving around how polymer clay had saved people from a very difficult time in their life (which many of you can relate to I am sure) or about the versatility of the medium. Here’s what I wrote …

 WIP WEDNESDAY

Christi Friesen & Katie Oskin

A Christi Friesen Weekend

What does Christi Friesen have to do with WIP Wednesday? Well … I spent more time this weekend claying with her than I do in any normal week. So therefore, this weeks’ WIP Wednesday is all about the lovely weekend that I spent with about 40 other wonderful people and Christi Friesen!

Getting Ready for a Weekend with Christi Friesen

This coming weekend I’m going to a two-day clayathon with Christi Friesen (insert lots of exclamation points, hoots, & hollers here)! I’ve been making a lot of things in preparation. Why? Because I’m richly blessed and I love to share with others … so … that being said, let’s get on with it, shall we?! This week’s collage is more of a “look what I’ve done” as opposed to “here’s what’s half done” or “here’s what’s partially done.”  (Clockwise from top left)

Polymer Clay Journal by KatersAcres

No, it’s not WIP Wednesday … Yes, this could have waited … but I’m just so excited to share it with you all!

Not What I Expected, But …

Have you ever made something that turned out really well despite the fact that as you were making it you kept thinking, “something is clearly wrong here?” Well … rarely does that happen to me. Let me clarify, if while I’m making something I keep thinking, “this doesn’t look right” then by the time it’s done it still doesn’t look right and it ends up waiting for more inspiration …

WIP Wednesday in KatersAcres Polymer Clay Studio

Holy Week Excitement

As many of my readers know, I am not a full-time artist. I am an ordained American Baptist Minister. This means that some weeks (like last week) are very busy for me with church and church activities. Last week was Holy Week and I was crazy busy! However, I did manage to squeeze in about 6 hours of work in my studio last week.  Working in my polymer clay studio always seems to just melt all the stress away, and last Friday was no different.
