I thrive on color. My world is colorful, happy, fun, bright, & cheerful. My polymer clay designs (for the most part) are an expression of that. Colors straight out of the package are pretty … but making your own colors? Now that’s REALLY pretty! Add in a Skinner blend or two and you’ve just opened a world filled with possibilities.
One of the things as artists that we need to pay careful attention to is not only the execution of a design, but the finishing aspects of designing your work. And sometimes not only do I not feel well, but I end up in the hospital. One such recent episode led to just that for 5 days. I’m back at home now, but struggling to regain most of my energy. So … this week in the studio has been … well … not as productive as most to say the least. But I did get some things done, several of which I can’t show you now, but I can show you later.

It’s been a very long time since I did a product review for a polymer clay item. Many of you (my darling readers) know that I only review products that I love. There are a of really great products on the market, a lot of really bad products on the market, and some okay products on the market. I happened to pick up several jars of this product on my Christi Friesen Weekend and fell in love with it immediately, came home & purchased the rest of the collection. About once a month I spend an entire week creating & making new polymer clay canes. Some of them are dedicated to a certain project, others are for the 52 Weeks of Canes, & some are just to stretch myself. So here’s what I worked on last week for several hours, clockwise from top left.

Welcome to another special edition tutorial! Once again today I’m traveling to East Palestine, Ohio to join with Brenda Landsdowne from B’Sue Boutiques to film a new project tutorial for you. Yesterday I shared with you what I had been working on in my studio. One of those things was an “Old Man Face” for a challenge for a FaceBook group I participate in. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with this Old Man yet, so I let him sit (for about a week) and kept staring at him while I worked. Finally I started asking in FaceBook Groups what people thought I should do with him. Overwhelmingly, many people thought he looked rather Asian … that was not my intent, but okay. I decided to run with it!

Ancient Egypt has long fascinated me. I love the history, the stories, the Biblical events … everything. When my husband and I journeyed to New York City in 2010, we went to the King Tut exhibit. One of the things I have always wanted was my own gold cartouche. Sadly, with the price tag being well over $200 there was no way I could afford it. But as always, polymer clay to the rescue … with an awesome DIY polymer clay cartouche tutorial so you can make your own pendant too!
This project is so much fun you might even end up ‘walking like an Egyptian’ before it’s completely baked.
