WIP Wednesday in KatersAcres Polymer Clay Studio

Holy Week Excitement

As many of my readers know, I am not a full-time artist. I am an ordained American Baptist Minister. This means that some weeks (like last week) are very busy for me with church and church activities. Last week was Holy Week and I was crazy busy! However, I did manage to squeeze in about 6 hours of work in my studio last week.  Working in my polymer clay studio always seems to just melt all the stress away, and last Friday was no different.

Polymer Clay Millefiori Cane Library Help by KatersAcres

Unique Millefiori Cane Library Solution

The Art of Millefiori Canes

As anyone who has created one of more millefiori canes, you know that there are some really awesome canes and some really not so awesome canes that you have made.  One of the things that I like to do is create a “library” for my canes.  This idea is not my own, but evolved from a discussion in one of the FaceBook groups I am in.  Many people talked about how they store, collect, and display their canes for future reference or use.

Do You Have a Dedicated Space?

Ginger Davis Allman of the Blue Bottle TreeIt’s true that artists come in all types: organized, messy, simple, & complex. Often our spaces reflect the artist within. Our series “Making the Most of Your Polymer Clay Studio” continues this week over at The Blue Bottle Tree. Ginger takes us on a great journey of finding your dedicated space and “Making Room for Your Polymer Clay Studio.”

As you read in my post last week,  we focused on “Falling in Love with Your Studio, no Matter its Size.”  This week Ginger takes that one step further and explores ideas on how to create that studio that you’re craving. She delves into all kinds of ideas surrounding building your own craft space: from converting an existing space, stealing a space, functional furniture, cart trolley’s and much more.

The Stroppel Cane

Stroppel Cane by KatersAcresStroppel Cane by KatersAcresI have blogged about the Stroppel Cane many times, Alice has even joined us here on the blog to say “hi” & give us more information about her awesome cane (see the comments on her post).  I have been making so many canes lately for flower necklaces and things that I have made some of the most beautiful Stroppel canes ever from those canes ends. (Okay, perhaps not ever … but the best ones I’ve ever made for sure.)

Daring to Try New Things

in my Polymer Clay Studio

For those of us who have creative streaks, we can often find ourselves deep inside a rut … sometimes one that we can’t get out of too. In fact, those are some difficult times for an artist. One of the things that I do when I’m in a “rut” creatively is to journal. However, I can often be found purchasing fabulous online tutorials for polymer clay.  Or … I order a new polymer clay book and dive deep into it’s pages.

Polymer Clay Flowers

The Week of the Skinner Blend

This week has been a very busy week in my studio, with Spring on the way I have been eager to start creating flowers! And like many other things in my studio, when I get the urge to create something I just follow the creative streak until it dies down. (Not to mention that since my gardening skills are not that good.) So unlike my other WIP Wednesday posts, this post is about just one thing instead of all the things I’ve been doing.
